I went to the ENT clinic, and came out still on voice rest. They did the scope (not so bad: stuff sprayed in my throat - it is probably good that I can't taste, then a camera shoved in there recording cord movement while I tried to say 'eeeee'), and found some blisters on the cords. They surmise the blisters are from a virus, and all I need is more time for the voice to come back. If I am still like this in a week, I will go back to them for further follow-up. The only thing different about the blisters (and you KNEW I would have something different): they aren't right across from each other, like they are usually found - they are kind of catty corner from each other.
The take-aways from all this - the hoarseness is NOT from nerve palsy caused by radiation therapy; the hoarseness is NOT from cancer coming back; and my coworkers and family are still going to have to deal with a silent Cheeky for a while. We met this morning and divied up the upcoming teaching events so other librarians will be taking them. I am heading out for that Harpo Marx outfit now, very happy that I don't have any further medical inspections on my chassis...

Woo hoo! Great news! Especially that it isn't cancer and isn't a side effect from radiation. An anti-climax? I don't think so! I think it's wonderful news and you should celebrate with a tour around in your Cheeky Mobile!

Thanks, Dee - I don't consider this great news an anti-climax, either, but somehow the title fit. It is great news that all I have to do is remain silent for another couple of days/weeks, and things should sort themselves out. Whoopee! I will join you in a digital shout, since I don't have any other options.
Could you post pictures of yourself in that Harpo Marx outfit? :-)
What a relief! It's always great when the doctor says it's something that will get better pretty much on its own, even if waiting for that to happen tries your patience. :)
Teri--How's the voice now? Were you able to rest it over the holiday weekend?
Hey Jeanne - had my first lecture to deliver since June 3rd. My voice was gravelly, and I didn't cough too much while talking, but you know me - I want things to be back to normal NOW. I was 95% silent over the weekend, since Rick was working all days, so I expected a lot more progress. Who do those vocal cords think they are, anyway??
